Kie.ai is an alternative AI provider in Rangy, and for several models it is the smarter route to take. When a Kie.ai API key is configured, Rangy can send Seedream and the Nano Banana family through Kie instead of Replicate — usually at a lower cost per image and often a little faster. It is the same models you already know, just a cheaper path to running them.

This guide walks you through getting that key from scratch — creating a Kie.ai account, adding credit, generating the API token — and then shows you exactly where to paste it inside Rangy and which models it affects. Part 1: How to Get Your Kie.ai API Key

1. Create a Kie.ai account Go to kie.ai and sign up. You can register with an email address or a linked account — whichever is fastest for you. Confirm your email if you are prompted to.
2. Add credit to your account Open your Kie.ai dashboard and find the billing or balance area. Add credit to your account — Kie.ai is pay-as-you-go, so a small starting balance is plenty to begin with, and you can top up later.
3. Open the API keys section Still in your dashboard, look for the API keys (or API access) section. This is where personal keys are created and managed.
4. Create a new key Generate a new API key and, if the option is offered, give it a name you will recognize later (for example, "Rangy"). Kie.ai produces a key string you will use to authenticate requests.

• Seedream models — Seedream 5 Lite, Seedream 4.5 and the rest of the Seedream lineup, run through Kie's faster, cheaper endpoints.
• The Nano Banana family — Nano Banana 2 and Nano Banana Pro, routed through Kie instead of Replicate.
• Lower cost on overlapping models — the same generations you would otherwise run on Replicate, billed against your Kie.ai balance at a generally lower rate.

Because Kie.ai overlaps with — rather than replaces — your primary provider, it works best alongside a Replicate key. Replicate still covers the broadest set of Rangy's models and the Crystal upscaler; Kie.ai simply gives you a cheaper lane for the models it supports. The other optional providers — Freepik, Google AI, and Anthropic — add their own specific capabilities on top.

How Much Does Kie.ai Cost?

Kie.ai uses pay-as-you-go pricing. There is no monthly subscription — you add credit to your account balance and are billed per generation, with the cost depending on which model you run and the output settings. For the models that overlap with Replicate, Kie.ai is generally the cheaper option, which is the main reason to set it up. Exact rates change over time, so check your Kie.ai dashboard for current pricing; either way, Rangy shows you an estimated cost before each generation so there are no surprises, and you can top up your Kie.ai balance whenever you like.

Troubleshooting

"Invalid API key" or generations fail immediately

Double-check that you copied the entire key with no extra spaces before or after it. If you are still stuck, revoke the key in your Kie.ai dashboard, create a fresh one, and paste the new key into Rangy.

Generations fail with a balance or quota error

This usually means your Kie.ai account has run out of credit. Open your Kie.ai dashboard and top up your balance — Kie.ai will not run generations once your balance reaches zero.

The key saved but a model still runs on Replicate

Kie.ai only covers the models it supports — primarily Seedream and the Nano Banana family. For models outside that set, Rangy continues to use Replicate or the relevant provider. If a model needs Freepik or Google AI, Rangy will tell you which key is missing.
